As the UK is set for another spike of hot weather seeing temperatures of 32 degrees over the weekend, experts have advised those with fresh flowers enlivening their homes on how to keep them lasting longer during the the scorching weather.
Whilst its tempting to rush off out and head to the nearest lido or beer garden to soak up the sun, you want to make sure you are not returning back home to wilted bouquets because you have forgotton they need to enjoy a drink too! Spokesperson Monique Kemperman from Plants & Flowers Foundation Holland has some tips to help your blooms survive the heat.
You might not think about it this way but imagine being in the sun for so long, that will result in sunburn surely and that is what will happen to your fresh bouquet of flowers in full sunlight, the delicate petals can burn.
It’s a good idea on the days that are soaring with heat to display them in a spot that is much cooler with mild shade.
If you have a balcony or garden, consider placing them in a corner that the sun can’t reach as easily. If you think about how you are in the sun, the same will apply for how your flowers feel.
There should be a figure on how much more water is consumer in the summer than in the winter but for the majority of us we do drink a lot more, and flowers are not exempt from that rule!
Just before leaving the house, make sure to top up the vase with water and spray the leaves petals just to keep moisture and hydration long lasting.

Is there a flower that just didn’t make it? Take a breath and then keep going. Remove the affected stem as soon as possible, so that the other flowers will not be affected and you will prevent the other flowers from drooping.
