The Royal Family’s naming practice can be a bit of a mouthful to process with multiple middle names and long titles. Although some members have been given names that span generations before then such as Prince William’s eldest son George – whose name was previously used by royals such as King George V and George VI.

Other members such as Princess Charlotte and Princess Lilibet – the young daughters of Prince William and Prince Harry – were given the middle name of ‘Diana’ as a sweet tribute to their paternal grandmother.

Princess Alexandra, who is the only daughter of the Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, was given four middle names, with the third being rather unexpected – Olga.

The royal, who was born on Christmas Day in 1936, was named Alexandra Helen Elizabeth Olga Christabel – with her last middle name thought to pay homage to the day she arrived.

Princess Michael of Kent, who married Prince Michael of Kent in 1978, was named Baroness Marie-Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnit at the time of her birth in 1945.

Princess Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank, who married his wife in 2018, was given two middle names – Christopher and Stamp.

The couple’s oldest son August, who was born in February 2021, was given the middle name of Hawke.

The now-four-year-old was named after his great-grandfather – the late Queen’s husband – Prince Philip and a great-grandfather on Jack’s side, Rev. Edward Hawke Brooksbank.

Following her divorce to her former husband Captain Mark Phillips, Princess Anne married Sir Timothy Laurence in 1992.

Now aged 70, Sir Timothy Laurence was named Timothy James Hamilton at the time of his birth in 1955.
