An overturned car has burst into flames on the M65 bringing traffic to a standstill. Severe delays are affecting drivers on the M65 this afternoon after a car reportedly overturned and caught fire, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air. The motorway was closed in both directions between Junction 8 (Accrington) and Junction 10 (Burnley/Padiham) due to the serious incident, LancsLive reported.
Photos shared online show the vehicle completely engulfed in flames, with fire crews responding at the scene. There are currently unconfirmed reports that the vehicle overturned before catching fire. The westbound carriageway has since reopened, but two lanes remain closed eastbound, causing heavy congestion.
According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, traffic was initially brought to a complete standstill at around 2pm
