Moment man ‘goes on rampage’ at Tube station in lawless London | UK | News

A man has been arrested after three alleged assaults at a London Underground station. Footage shared online appears to show a confrontation at Earls Court on Monday. One individual can be seen chasing another around the ticket hall, as shocked members of the public watch on. At one point, one of the people involved appears to use a stand to protect himself from the other. A notice board is also knocked over, before one of the men forces his way through a ticket barrier to get away. The video ends with one of the males screaming on the floor while being detained.

British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Officers were called around 1.40pm yesterday to a man attacking staff and a member of the public at Earl’s Court Underground station. A man, aged 20, was arrested on suspicion of common assault x3. There is currently no suggestion the incident related to an attempted watch theft.”

BTP polices the country’s railway stations, including on Transport for London’s (TfL) network.

Earls Court is served by the District and Piccadilly lines.

This incident comes as the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, who took office in 2016, comes under pressure over crime levels in the capital.

Figures show that the number of crimes reported on the Underground between January and December 2023 hit a record 22,562 – up 52% from the same period in 2022, according to the MailOnline.

In 2024, Sir Sadiq told our sister site MyLondon that ‘incorrect’ figures suggested a huge rise in violent crime on the Tube after a report in January that year suggested that it had risen by 75% in the last two years.

“Passenger numbers fell to record lows, as did transport crime levels, during the pandemic when lockdown restrictions were in place and many people were working from home,” Mr Khan said.

“The comparison of recent crime levels with those during the pandemic is not a valid comparison.

“Overall, Transport for London’s public transport crime trends largely reflect national crime trends in rising from the lower volumes recorded during the pandemic.”
