Prince Edward is set to jet overseas solo next week to spend seven days in Canada, Buckingham Palace has said. The Duke of Edinburgh, 61, will carry out a number of royal engagements in the country from June 25 until July 2, visiting several different areas.

As reported by GB News, Edward – who will be making the trip without his wife, the Duchess of Edinburgh – will visit Prince Edward Island, Toronto and Ottawa. As Colonel-in-Chief of The Prince Edward Island Regiment since 2005, the duke will attend celebrations marking the regiment’s 150th anniversary, including a Freedom of the City parade.

During his time on Prince Edward Island, Edward will also visit the Abegweit First Nation, where he will participate in an education forum with representatives from all four Atlantic provinces.

Before leaving, Edward will also spend time meeting with youth organisations on the island.

Elsewhere on the visit, the prince will take part in Canada Day celebrations on July 1 in Ottawa.

The duke will spend time visiting the naval reserve unit HMCS York and CFB Trenton air base, making time during his Canadian tour to meet community leaders and emerging youth leaders in Toronto.

He will also be visiting the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, where he serves as Colonel-in-Chief.

As reported by GB News, the King’s younger brother will then spend time recognising the service of public sector organisations during his visit, including the Toronto Police Service’s Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force.

The prince will also carry out a series of smaller royal engagements during his week in the country, which includes celebrating the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, attending a service at Christ Church, and visiting the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in his role as Honorary Deputy Commissioner.

The visit next week will be the first time Edward has visited Canada since April 2023.

It also comes just weeks after the King and Queen Camilla visited Canada in May for the Opening of the Parliament.
