SAINSBURY’S has been relentlessly mocked online after an eagle-eyed customer spotted the world’s most pointless serving suggestion on a cake box.

An image of the lush chocolate cake was posted on Reddit, with the caption “Thank you, Sainsbury’s, for this helpful advice. Don’t know how I would’ve eaten this otherwise.”

Is this one of the world’s most pointless serving suggestions?

The cake box in question features a large round chocolate cake – which looks incredibly delicious in its entirety.

In the top right corner of the box, the supermarket chain has thoughtfully added a serving suggestion recommending customers cut a just a slice – in case anyone was a little unsure and thought to head into the treat face-first.

Reddit users were quick to pile on the mockery – with some pretty amusing comebacks.

Interfail said: “Clearly slicing is for amateurs – you’re just meant to power in with a spoon”, while kitjen quipped: “Look at Mr Fancy Pants here with his spoon.”

Sangvert joined the conversation soon after, saying: “Only an amateur cake eater would look at serving suggestions.”

Cornflake-bandit said: “Real men just put their face in it”, while Musicnbuhks02 mused about what really makes up a serving size: “You mean a cake isn’t single serving?”
